Steve Torok introduces strategies and techniques for studying the saxophone's altissimo register. The clinic is suitable for altissimo beginners and for players who wish to improve their altissimo technique. Topics include recommended resources, practice strategies, exercises, advice about gear selection, and methods for developing extreme altissimo.
MOJO performs Christmas funk and jazz on a flatbed truck! This year’s Encinitas Holiday Parade theme is Peace by the Pacific, celebrating the joyful, laid-back spirit of our beachside town. The theme captures the coastal vibe of Encinitas as relaxed, full of good energy, and uniquely ours. Parade night will bring friends, families, and neighbors together to celebrate peace, fun, and the season, with entries that reflect creativity, culture, and connection to our coastal community.
MOJO has won eight DownBeat Student Music Awards since 2015, including their top award among community colleges in 2023, 2022, and 2017. The band will perform works by renowned past and present jazz luminaries and new compositions/arrangements by band members and director Steve Torok.

Tom “Bones” Malone, best known for his work with The Blues Brothers, David Letterman Show, and Saturday Night Live, is a trombonist, multi-instrumentalist, arranger & producer. Tom has written 2,700 arrangements for television and has performed on 4,400+ television shows, 3,000+ radio & television commercials, 1,500+ recordings, and thousands of live performances worldwide. Artists he has recorded and arranged for include James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Sting, Al Green, Whitney Houston, Tom Petty, Steely Dan, Chaka Kahn, Tina Turner, Miles Davis, Count Basie, and hundreds of others. In January 2024, MOJO performed with Tom at the JEN (Jazz Education Network) Conference in New Orleans.

The Library's Autumn Concert Series takes place on Fridays from September 6 to October 25. Each concert will begin at 1 p.m. in the Winn Room. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance. Join the MiraCosta Symphony Orchestra for a fabulous night of classical music featuring Professor Steve Torok, performing Alexander Glazunov’s famed concerto for saxophone. Steve has performed with many notable artists including Stevie Wonder, Usher, Adam Levine, the Temptations, and Four Tops. His television work includes the hit shows American Idol and The Voice. The orchestra will finish out the evening with Robert Schumann’s exhilarating Symphony No. 1 and Franz von Suppe’s beloved Light Cavalry overture. Directed by Branden Muresan.

Steve is proud to be headlining the Hoxton Jam at the Troy Bar in London. Guest artists are featured for the first set followed by a killer jam. Steve selected some challenging Brecker and Stern tunes plus his own stuff for this one. The players are really killer. Fantastic fun! The "Hoxton Jam" has received great reviews and is one of the most successful jam nights located in central London. Throughout the last 3 years the jam night has developed a family of great professional session players of all ages and styles, that show up every Wednesday sharing their skills and experience, and socializing with other musicians.

Eleven-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson is “one of the greatest country singers of our time,” according to the Washington Post. Trombonist, composer, arranger, and educator Francisco Torres is the musical director for the Grammy-Award winning Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band and a member of Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. His recording and performance credits include Aretha Franklin, Terence Blanchard, Dianne Reeves, Natalie Cole, James Moody, Roy Hargrove, Michael Buble, Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, Saturday Night Live, Dancing With The Stars, and America's Got Talent. Recent film work includes The Incredibles 2, Coco, and The Secret Life of Pets. And because it is May the Fourth...May the Fourth be with you...we are also embracing a Star Wars musical theme for the day! Bands are encouraged to present Star Wars themed music, attire, and anything else they would like to do. Bands are encouraged to present Star Wars themed music.
